French Designer Dreams of "Flying Hotel"
A French designer has found a partner to make his dream of a 700-foot flying hotel a reality.
Jean-Marie Massaud's "Manned Cloud" is a large airship that would carry its guest over beauty spots, Germany's Der Spiegel reported. His company, Massaud Studio, suggests that airbone sightseeing would avoid the harm done to ecologically sensitive areas by tourists on the ground and the hotels and other facilities they need.
Massaud's design calls for facilities for 40 guests and 15 employees, including a restaurant, library, bar, fitness center and a sun deck on top of the airship. Guests would be able to view the sights from large windows.
The airship would be able to remain airborne for about three days, crusing at speeds of up to 105 miles per hour. Its more usual pace would be a leisurely 80 miles per hour.
Onera a French aerospace research company, is to work out the technological details for the "Manned Cloud". Massaud still needs partners with an actual business model for building and operating the flying hotel.
