Wolves always travel in single file
this behavior is known as 'trailblazing'.
The reason for this is to conserve the energy of the pack
the first wolf in line is known as the 'trailblazer',
whose job it is to encounter any obstacles in the path and pack down the snow.
This allows for a smoother, more efficient journey,
rather than having all the individual wolves plow through the snow separately.
When the 'trailblazer' tires, he or she falls behind
When the 'trailblazer' tires, he or she falls behind
and another wolf takes over the helm and leads the trail.
has been successful in surviving for hundreds of thousands of years
one main reason is their every effort to conserve energy
as with all successful predators it is a balance of energy out/energy in
and the main reason that it such a preposterous statement
by the anti-wolf camp that "wolves run and kill for sport and fun,
and then do not consume their kill"!
With only one out of every seven attempts at a hunt being successful
wolves would never waste that kind of VITAL energy.
I propose that only humans kill for 'fun and recreation.
