Sitting in McDonald's at Yonge and Bloor,
my heart breaks for this lady.
Every time she tries talking to her "worker"
she doesnt even respond.
So immersed in her phone;
when the elderly woman drew attention to the lack of attention,
she snapped back "Im reading something,
what do you want me to look at now.
"Dejected she replied "nothing, it doesnt matter anyway."
Its a terribly sad day when this is how we treat elders,
those we could learn from.
She clearly is in need of human connection,
one this woman is probably being paid to provide.
Simply existing near them, is NOT interaction.
I really just wanted to hug her and hear a story.
I bet shes got more than a few good ones.
Sometimes all people need, is someone to care.
Even if they're being paid to.
