living takes a lot of "growing up"
But when you really get the hang of it,
You can stump your toe and jump right up.
And tell the world it didn't hurt a bit
.
Though heartache is a bitter medicine
That each of us must swallow, pretty soon
We grow accustomed to the taste, and there
Are some who even learn to lick the spoon.
Living takes a lot of "growing up"
Some things don't turn out the way we plan,
If the mountain can't be climbed, then reach
The other side the best way that you can.
Happiness is earned, not freely given,
Like silver coins within a beggar's cup.
Life is played according to the rules,
And living takes a lot of "growing up"
